Happy Easter.
Hey
everybody, it’s that other holiday that the Catholics like to celebrate. You
know… the one that isn’t Christmas. It’s
the one with the bunny….and the eggs…and Jesus. Yeah.
Christmas is
pretty much our biggest holiday and I can tell you why: Christmas is about
celebration. It’s about presents and family and snow and a birthday for God’s
sake. Easter is about spring time, and rebirth and nailing a guy to the cross. It’s kind of a holiday of contention for
some people because it’s mostly about Jesus’ death and who killed him and why
and why and all that jazz.
I love Easter
for the same reason I love most Catholic holidays. It’s all about being
together with people. Easter in my family is a day of food and church and egg
dying. Every year I get my mum a chocolate bunny and we dye eggs together.
This year I
spent most of Easter pretty sick. But the nice part was that I was sick with my
family around me, so I was happy and safe.
I love my religion because the holidays give me a surefire excuse to go have
dinner with my parents and my brother. It gives me an excuse to check in on
them, make sure they’re holding up with me gone.
And a chance
to score some free food.
Challenge to
my Readers:
Spend some time with your family, no matter what
form that family takes
